Yangon Port, built in 1852, is the largest port in Myanmar and one of the world's major rice export ports. [1] Yangon Port is the first commercial port in Myanmar. It is located in the south central part of the country, on the east side of the Irrawaddy River Delta, on the left bank of the Yangon River, 24 nautical miles south of Motama Bay in Andaman Sea, and 10000 ton seagoing ships can enter the port at the tide.
There are 13 quay docks and two fixed berths for ocean vessels in the port, including 4 rice berths, distributed at the Surpagoda dock (berths 1 and 2). The length of the dock line is 505 meters, and the depth of low tide water is 7.3-8.5 meters. The Akron and Hitterdam docks have a line length of 134 and 139 meters respectively, and a water depth of 7.9-9.1; The 5 general cargo berths are all distributed at the Surpagoda terminal (berths 3-7), with a dock line of 476 meters and a water depth of 7.3-9.0 meters, which can accommodate ships with a captain of 137-160 meters and a draft of 7.4-9.4 meters. Inland waterway shipping connects the Irrawaddy River network, with a sea route reaching 165 nautical miles east of the Port of Mauritius, 258 nautical miles west of the Port of Perseux, 762 nautical miles south of the Port of Penang, and 1117 nautical miles to the Port of Singapore.
In 2011, there were 17 international ship berths in the Yangon Port area of Yangon Port, and 6 international ship berths in the Dilowa Port area, totaling 23 berths, which can accommodate 23 large ships simultaneously. From 2010 to 2011, a total of 476 foreign container ships and 1143 mixed cargo ships docked at various terminals in Yangon Port.
