Product Description

POL: BUSAN
POD: St.Petersburg

A new route will deploy a 2000 TEU vessel connecting Busan, Ningbo, Quanzhou, Shekou, Nansha, Jebel Ali, and St. Petersburg, reportedly the only sea passage between Busan and St. Petersburg.

In 2021, the annual import and export volume between South Korea and Russia was approximately 840000 standard containers, making Russia the fifth largest trading partner after China, the United States, Japan, and Vietnam. Automobiles, automotive components, cosmetics, and synthetic resins are the main export products to Russia.

The Port of Busan is located at the southeastern end of the Korean Peninsula, connecting the Pacific Ocean and the Eurasian continent. Busan Port is not only the largest port in South Korea, but also the fifth largest container port in the world (based on 2010). Busan Port is surrounded by mountains and islands, with ripples on the water surface and small tidal drops. It is connected to the three major major shipping routes in the world and has unique port conditions.

Current Situation of Busan Port Facilities Construction

Busan Port was opened in 1407 and was first renamed Fushanpu. Since the construction of the dock in 1906, it has undergone continuous development and has become a modern large port. It has 4 major ports including Beigang, Nangang, Ganchuan Port, and Duopu Port, as well as 8 major container terminals and international passenger terminals.

St. Petersburg Port is located on the south bank of the NEVA estuary on the northwest coast of Russia, in the NEVABAY Bay at the eastern end of FINLAND Bay, on the northeast side of the Baltic Sea. It is the largest commercial port and second largest city in western Russia.

There are 49 main dock berths in the port area, with a water depth of 6.5-11.5m at the front of the dock. There are 5 loading and unloading areas in total: the first loading and unloading area is for cargo operations, the second loading and unloading area is for wood operations, the third loading and unloading area is for container operations, the fourth loading and unloading area is for coal, grain, and sugar operations, and the fifth loading and unloading area is for crude oil operations. There are modern loading and unloading equipment on the dock, including various shore cranes, container cranes, floating cranes, suction cranes, conveyor belts, and forklifts, among which the maximum lifting capacity of the floating crane is 300 tons. The anchorage depth of the large ship is about 20-25m.

1. FCT - First Container Terminal, one of the most important terminals in St. Petersburg, is currently the largest terminal visited by major shipping companies in the market. As customs clearance is relatively convenient for customers, it is generally the preferred terminal for the consignee.

2. PLP - PEPRO LES PORT is a commonly used container terminal similar to FCT terminal, and it is also favored by the consignee due to the more services provided by shipping companies and the convenience and speed of customs clearance.

3. ULCT - UST LUGA Container Terminal, Ust Lugo Port, which is a remote port leading to the Baltic countries.

4. Sea Fish Port - commonly known as the fishing port in St. Petersburg, there are also some customers who choose this port's services, but there are relatively few going to the shipping company.

5. NM Northern Wharf is a port located in the north of St. Petersburg, with a relatively small throughput and a relatively long distance from the city center, with few ships available.

6. Bronka Terminal, a newly built terminal in recent years, has been provided with berthing services by shipping companies, which has greatly alleviated the pressure on FCT and PLP terminals. The current throughput can reach 1.9-3 million TUE.

7. KRONSHTADT - This dock is located in the suburbs, remote from the city center, with few ships docked, and customs clearance is not convenient. The cost of transporting container goods to the city center can vary from 200 USD.

At present, the quay line of Busan Port is 27.4km long, allowing 184 ships to dock simultaneously. The annual throughput reaches over 100 million tons. In addition, to address the increasing number of containers, Busan New Port is being constructed and is expected to be completed by 2015. After completion, 30 ships can be allowed to dock simultaneously, and the annual container throughput capacity will reach 14.99 million TEUs.
