Founded in 1860, the industrial and commercial industry gradually flourished and became the center of commerce, finance, and education in southern Philippines. The port has a tropical rainforest climate climate with prevailing northeasterly winds. The annual average temperature is 24-31 ºC. The average annual rainfall is about 1700mm. January to March is the dry season, with typhoons hitting in spring and summer. It belongs to the Rizhao Port, with an average tidal range of 1.5m.
There are 20 main dock berths in the port area, with a shoreline length of 3303m and a maximum water depth of 12m. The loading and unloading equipment includes various shore cranes, container cranes, floating cranes, forklifts, and barges, among which the lifting capacity of forklifts is 25 tons. The container berth has a horizontal lifting container crane with a maximum lifting capacity of 35 tons. There are oil depots with a storage capacity of 80000 tons at specialized oil terminals such as Pegasus, Texas Valley, and Shell. This port is the import and export center for goods on Cebu Island and nearby small islands, with an annual throughput second only to Manila Port. The main export goods include coconut oil, coconut oil, hemp, tobacco, wood, cement, mineral sand, and sucrose, while the import goods mainly include coal, oil, wheat, rice, salt, hardware products, and general merchandise.
